Trouble Shooting Tips

Computer/Laptop

My computer is stuck on the welcome screen

  • Turn off the machine by holding down the power button for about ten seconds and turn it back on.

Laptop comes on and then immediately shuts off

  • The laptop probably needs to be charged. Try plugging it into a charger and it should stay on. (If that laptop has been charging, but will not stay on when unplugged from charger, you probably have a battery problem. Talk to Ms. Graham if this is the case.)

Printer

My documents won’t print.

  • First check to be sure that the printer is on and has paper.

  • Also, some printers will not print if the ink is low so check to see if there is a message about the ink on the printer. Sometimes if you take the ink cartridge out and shake it a few times, the printer will print once you put the ink back in.

  • Make sure you are printing to the correct printer.

  • Check to see if there is a document stuck in the printer queue. If so, cancel the document and clear the queue.

  • If still not printing, try to turn off your computer, restart your printer, and print again.

Internet Connection Issues

(Be sure you are using the Google Chrome browser. It seems to work the best with our technology in Wayne County.)

My computer/laptop will not connect to the internet.

  • If using a laptop, check to make sure the wireless switch is turned on. If you see red, the wireless is turned off. (On the black Dell laptops, this switch is found on the right side of the laptop by the charging port. On the gray Dell laptops, this switch is found to the left of the trackpad.)

  • Check the Internet connection to be sure you are connected to the NWE network. If you are connecting to the public network, you have to accept the terms in order to connect to the wireless network.

  • If on a desktop computer, check to be sure your internet cable is plugged securely into your computer. If your cable does not fit securely, let us know and we will get you a new one.

I am seeing a Proxy Server message when I open my Internet Browser.

  • Click here is a see a short video to help solve this problem. (If the link doesn’t open when you click it, try to right click on the link and select “Open in New Tab.”)

  • Many students can show you how to fix this problem as well.

Please do the following BEFORE completing the form.

1. CHECK POWER/PLUGS/CONNECTIONS

Is everything plugged in, connected, and is the power strip turned on or reset if necessary?

2. CHECK NETWORK CABLE

Is it plugged into BOTH the computer and the wall outlet? Trace the cable from one end to the other to be sure.

3. RESTART

Start > Shutdown > Restart > Log In

4. SHUTDOWN

Start > Shutdown > Shutdown > Wait one minute > Power back on > Log in

If this does not solve the problem, please complete the work order request form below completely and submit. Someone from the county IT Department will come out as soon as possible.
