Class Schedule (1SG Gray)
1st Period: LET 12nd Period: Planning 3rd Period: LET 14th Period: LET 1Hello from me, First Sergeant (1SG) Gray! Thank you for coming to my teacher page where I hope you find the information useful. I specifically teach Leadership Education Training (LET) 1 as well as coach the AJROTC Drill Team after school. On this page, you will find very basic information such as the syllabus, training schedule, and rubrics. I highly recommend you go to our Cougar AJROTC Battalion website for additional information such as my professional background and upcoming events. If at any time you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at Lemuelgray@wcps.org. I am looking forward to a great year. Stay motivated!
* Athletic Wear/Shoes: We conduct physical training (PT) once a week and each Cadet is required to dress out. No inappropriate athletic wear (tank tops or tiny shorts allowed).
* 1 Inch White Clear View Binder: Each Cadet must have this specific binder so that his or her JROTC Portfolio of classwork, assessments, reflections, and any other items are accounted for. Portfolios are graded.
* Grooming Standards: All Army JROTC units are governed by Army standards and regulations. This includes male and female grooming standards. The AJROTC program DOES have restrictions on hairstyles, the number of earrings in ears, and several other requirements while Cadets are in uniform. Cadets should always represent themselves with dignity, especially while wearing the JROTC uniform.
The use of technology will be utilized in the classroom to enhance classroom instruction and global awareness. Computers will be provided during the class period to access JROTC Smart Cadet, Infinite Campus, other digital resources, and assigned projects given during the semester. Parents/Guardians/Cadets MUST sign a "Use of Technology Form" in order to utilize school computers.
* Primary (Email): I prefer to send an email to parents/guardians regarding JROTC events and updates. I also use email to updated student performance. If you have not received an email then more than likely I do not have it. Please send so I can update my roster.
* Alternate (Phone): I use this method when very important and or time is of importance.
Here are several links / documents that will provide additional information and answer some of your questions.
1SG Gray's Syllabus SY 2025-2026
North Carolina Career and Technical Education added the JROTC courses in the 2025 – 2026 CTE Course Inventory to be able to recognize the pathway as a viable career preparatory option for students. CTE acknowledges and appreciates that the JROTC curriculum is managed by the individual JROTC branches and the local school systems play a vital role in hosting, implementing, and overseeing JROTC programs within their specific educational context. CTE has essentially adopted the JROTC courses – much like the Advanced Learning (AP, IB, and CIE) courses.
What are the benefits of a JROTC Pathway in CTE for cadets?
For cadets, the JROTC pathway benefits include:
Credential opportunities:
NOCTI JROTC Leadership and Employability Skills Credential is available to students in official JROTC units
ACT WorkKeys National Career Readiness Certificate
Students may also become a CTE Pathway Concentrator
Eligibility to earn the NC High School Career Diploma Endorsement
College credit opportunity
For students obtaining the NOCTI JROTC Leadership and Employability Skills Credential - The recommendation is that students receive credit in the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, three (3) semester hours distributed as two (2) semester hours in Leadership Fundamentals and one (1) semester hour in Career Planning. However, students must request from their respective post-secondary registrar’s office and the decision to grant credit lies with the college/university.
