Technology/Internet Responsible Use Policy

The computing resources at Charles B. Aycock High School support the educational, instructional, research, and administrative activities of the school and the use of these resources is a privilege that is extended to members of the Falcon community. As a user of these services and facilities, you have access to valuable school resources, to sensitive data, and to internal and external networks. Consequently, it is important for you to behave in a responsible, ethical, and legal manner.

In general, acceptable use means respecting the rights of other computer users, the integrity of the physical facilities and all pertinent license and contractual agreements. If an individual is found to be in violation of the Acceptable Use Policy, the school will take disciplinary action, including the restriction and possible loss of network privileges. A serious violation could result in more serious consequences, up to and including suspension or termination from the school. Individuals are also subject to federal, state and local laws governing many interactions that occur on the Internet. These policies and laws are subject to change as state and federal laws develop and change. This document establishes specific requirements for the use of all computing and network resources at Charles B. Aycock High School.

All staff members must have a signed agreement on file with the Media Center. A new form is required of staff at the beginning of each school year. The policy should be reviewed by staff and with students prior to access. Students must have a signed form on file to access technology resources, including computers, software, and internet. It is the responsibility of the teacher to monitor student activity while using resources. Failure to abide by agreement may result in loss of privileges. Complete and sign AUP/POWERSCHOOL by September 9, 2019.

Collection and Development Policy

Charles B. Aycock High School Media Center is a great asset to the school curriculum. Our Media Center contains over 10,000 volumes plus many other materials that should supplement our curriculum. The Media Center collects materials, in a variety of popular formats, which support its function as a major information source for the demanding needs of a metropolitan population. The collection also serves the general educational interest, recreational, and entertainment needs of the public, and reflects the racial, ethnic and cultural diversity of the community.

Widespread interest and usage are the most powerful influence on the Library's collection. The other driving force of the Library's strategic plan.
