I have been incredibly fortunate to be teaching for over 28 years and in this time I have seen a lot of changes and I have grown exponentially as an educator. I have taught in almost all elementary grades as a classroom teacher (with the exception of Kindergarten), as well I have been a system numeracy coach, and district math consultant. In Fall 2019 I returned to WCDSB as Mathematics Consultant, 1-8 after being on a three-year secondment with the ministry of education as a student achievement officer. Starting in 2023 to present I assumed the Board Math Lead, K-12 Math Coordinator role for WCDSB. I will always consider myself an elementary teacher at heart; I currently spend a large majority of time directly in classrooms with children and educators supporting schools & my district's numeracy goals in response to effective teaching of mathematics. I continue to work with K-8 educators, administrators and senior administrators supporting math with a particular focus on implementation and leadership.
During my career, I have had incredible opportunities to work with math learning and teaching at the school, the district and the provincial level; meeting many amazing & innovative educators along the way. Early in my career, teaching mathematics became my number one passion and it continues to excite and energize me today. I am a self-proclaimed MATHIE, & I wear that badge proudly!
I have been a part of numerous cycles of lesson study and collaborative action research in the project Math for Young Children (M4YC) and as a co-researcher for regional math leadership action research projects. I am a long time member of OAME, OMCA and NCTM and I have presented at a number of conferences in the area of early learning and spatial reasoning in Ontario & abroad. I also enjoy instructing additional qualification courses in mathematics curriculum and pedagogy to pre- and in-service elementary teachers where I am able to share my love for math teaching and learning!
I am also super lucky to be a mom to three great kids and a wife to a wonderfully supported husband who embraces my math-enthusiasm and my appetite for life-long education! I am looking forward continuing my journey of learning and leading as a school administrator.
A topic related to leadership I am acutely interested in studying more about is student and teacher efficacy. A building belief that one has the capacity or power to learn is highly predictive of achievement and future success!
