Our ALPS project was to create an album with two cover songs and three original songs. Our main idea was to choose two songs we enjoy and then take inspiration from the artist of those songs to create our own. We did this project because most of our group is interested in music and would like to pursue it someday. We wanted something that could help us get ready for when that happens. Going into this we thought that writing the songs would take up most of the effort and time that we put into this, which is why we left lots of leeway for the writing.
To make this album first we chose two songs from the Beatles that we took a liking to. After this, we started to write our original songs. The process for composing the songs was mainly just putting out ideas, choosing the best ones from those, and arranging them in a way that sounded the best. Everyone had their process to this which is what makes the songs unique. The hardest part about this entire project was finding the time and space to record.
The original plan was to have everyone play at the same time and record all of us playing the songs, but due to people being away this wasn’t possible so we changed it to individual recordings. This was more efficient although we had another setback in one of our members not being able to record at all. Due to this, we had to divide the work last minute between the two of us who were able to record at our houses. The part that we thought would be the hardest turned out to be the easiest and vice versa. After all of the parts had bee n recorded we gave it to Anthony to mix and finish up. This is the project that we worked on this year and we are glad to say that it turned out better than expected despite the setbacks.
