oxygen (O₂) + glucose (C₆H₁₂O₆) → ATP + carbon dioxide (CO₂) + water (H₂O)
sunlight + carbon dioxide (CO₂) + water (H₂O) → oxygen (O₂) + glucose (C₆H₁₂O₆)
This color coded model displays my connection between what I've been learning in class with my own eco-site. (See collapsible text boxes above for color coding.) During the fall and winter semesters, we learned about all the components and processes that occur in the cycle of matter in an ecosystem. These processes include photosynthesis, which allows producers to make their own food, and cellular respiration, which provides organisms with ATP or stored energy that can be used to carry out other chemical processes. More recently. we've been really focusing in on carbon; how it affects the ecosystem, where it is stored, and even how it affects ecosystems on a more global scale.
