TEAM GEAR - We will send home the information for gear as soon as we get it
MEET VIDEOS - We record every meet so the wrestler and their parents have an opportunity to watch their match. We understand that not all parents have the flexibility to make every match, so we do our best to make this happen. We will send a secured link via email after each meet for the videos.
Academic eligibility (Minimum – passing all but one subject)
· If a student is ineligible they are not permitted to participate for the entire week. Parents will be contacted. Student must wrestle his way back to varsity status.
· If a student becomes ineligible a second time, parents will be contacted. Parents and coaches will determine if student will be dismissed.
· Third ineligibility – Automatic dismissal.
Transportation
· All practices will end at 5:00 PM
· Students are permitted to participate in carpooling as needed. However, all students must ride home on the bus from an away match unless he has a note from his parent. Plan ahead. The AD is notified about late pick-ups.
· Home meets start in the Peirce gym at 3:20PM
· We will arrive back at Peirce Middle School about 5:30PM after an away meet (Time may vary due to distance traveled.)
Varsity Wrestler Determination
Where possible between meets, each weight-class participates in a wrestle-off. This allows any wrestler to challenge the wrestler above in the order. If the second wrestler is able to beat the first level wrestler, then they are eligible to wrestle on the varsity roster. Any wrestler that does not make weight for a match loses varsity status. (Wrestle offs are held at coaches’ discretion and are not guaranteed.)
Junior Varsity and Consolation Matches
Consolation matches are usually wrestled after varsity matches whenever two teams have second or third level wrestlers of similar weight and ability. These matches are not factored into the team score.
Tournaments
These are meets between several schools. They allow quality wrestlers to compete against the best from each school. Wrestlers are ranked and seated by ability and record to provide good competition. Information about additional tournaments will be provided throughout the season. We encourage all wrestlers to participate – it is great experience. These “Tournaments” take place on the weekends.
Equipment
· Each wrestler will be issued a singlet (uniform) and we have some headgear. Varsity Wrestlers will receive warm-ups.
· These must be maintained by the wrestler and returned at the end of the season.
· Where possible, knee-pads will be provided; we also have plenty of “gently used” shoes.
· All wrestlers with braces must wear a protective mouthpiece.
o Available at most Walgreen’s/Kelly’s/Dick’s Sporting Goods
Weight Loss
Through proper nutrition and hard work in practice, they should be at a comfortable competition weight. The Peirce coaching staff will NOT and will NEVER ask any student to lose weight. A wrestler who works hard throughout the season will lose weight . ALL wrestlers have all been “weight certified.” See: http://www.piaa.org/sports/wrestling/
WE HANDLE THE WEIGHT CERTIFICATION IN HOUSE
HYDRATION TEST
Henderson High School trainers will be on site for hydration tests. This test ensures that all wrestlers are properly hydrated throughout the season and are not losing weight in an unsafe manner. Remember, WE DON’T ASK WRESTLERS TO CUT WEIGHT.
