The Chemistry Olympiad team is a team of 4 students who represent New Zealand overseas at the annual International Chemistry Olympiad.Â
This suits Year 12 students who are taking Level 3 Chemistry. In September there is an opportunity to sit an exam (1 hour). This is based on Level 3 Chemistry content. If you do well enough in that (the bar is not too high) you can register to continue following a program over the Summer break (at home, in your own time) that leads to a second exam in March of your Year 13 year. If you do well enough in that paper, you'll then be invited to a Chemistry Olympiad camp alongside approximately 30 students from around the motu. The camp is usually hosted by the University of Auckland and lasts for a week, during the April holidays. We have had a number of students attend the camp over the years and all have come back buzzing from the experience.
At the camp, the final group of 4 students is selected, to represent New Zealand at the International Chemistry Olympiad, which is normally held in June / July.
