We are looking forward to another great year of music making! We welcome any and all opportunities to meet with parents and students. All are encouraged to talk with either of us if there are questions or concerns. Please feel free to visit, email, or call at any time.
I have been the vocal music director at West Central since 2012. I grew up in Wausau, Wisconsin, which is about 5 hours from Maynard. My high school was VERY large compared to West Central... I graduated with almost 400 other people! After high school, I attended Wartburg College in Waverly. I graduated in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in music education and concentration in piano. In 2016, I completed my Master's degree and Kodaly Certification through Silver Lake College in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Iowa has been my home since I graduated from Wartburg. I began my teaching career in Mason City, where I taught elementary music for 4 years.
My husband Scott is a West Central graduate. He is a licensed funeral director with Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Homes. We live just outside of Oelwein with our three children: Holly (born January 2015), Abrielle (born September 2017), and Levi (born March 2021). We also have a blue heeler (Josie), our horses (Louise, Pepto, Sam, Sally, and Copper), and a goat (Billie). I enjoy spending time with my family, baking, playing the piano, and horseback riding with my husband.
I grew up in Decorah, Iowa. In 2008 I graduated from Waldorf College. I have a Bachelors of Science in Music Education. My main instrument was the tuba. I currently live in Strawberry Point with my wife (Sara), two children (Ariella and Jamin), and dog (Teddy). A favorite quote of mine is from Theodore Roosevelt, 26th President of the United States:
"Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, difficulty... I have never in my life envied a human being who led an easy life. I have envied a great many people who led difficult lives and led them well."
I am very excited and glad to be part of the Blue Devil Community!
