The focus of Algebra I is on four major areas: (1) linear, quadratic and exponential functions; (2) statistics; (3) the real number system; (4) equations and systems of equations. This is an accelerated course of study and as a result students will have the opportunity to take AP courses at the high school level. All students will take the New York State Algebra I Regents Exam in June.
The focus of Grade 8 Math is on three major areas: (1) expressions and equations; (2) functions and quantitative relationships; (3) two and three dimensional figures. This course will prepare the student to successfully complete Algebra and Geometry in High School.
Math 7H is an accelerated course and as such will incorporate both 7th and 8th grade math topics. Students will be prepared to take the Algebra 1 Regents course in 8th grade.
The focus of Grade 7 Math is on five major areas: (1) proportional relationships; (2) operations with rational numbers; (3) expressions and linear equations; (4) area, surface area and volume; (5) probability and statistics.
Math Applications is an exciting new standards based class where students will be participating in Project Based Learning activities. Projects motivate students to gain knowledge, and they remember it longer. Projects give students the chance to apply the skills they learn in other classes to personally relevant and real-world situations. Your child also learns skills in PBL such as how to think critically, solve problems, work in teams, and make presentations. These skills will help students succeed in the future, both in school and in today’s work world.
The focus of grade 6 Math is on four major areas: (1) ratios and rate; (2) operations with rational numbers; (3) expressions and equations; (4) statistics.
