Hi! I'm Mrs. LeBeau, school counselor of all our PAE pandas. My responsibilities also include coordinating our SAT (student assistance team) services, 504 services, attendance/truancy tracking, homeless services, and ELPT testing. That's all a fancy way of saying if you need help, I'm here for you and your family!
My primary concern every day is the emotional well being of our students and how their state of mind is impacting their education. Through various sources of referrals, I am able to support students in this area through individual and small group counseling. A school counselor provides short term counseling for students who need additional support in every day social/emotional skills. For example, students at the lower elementary level frequently struggle with emotional regulation, social skills, impulse control, etc.
I work closely with our school's Social Worker to ensure that any students needing long term therapy to meet their mental health needs are referred to her or outside counseling agencies. This happens when your child is struggling with serious life events that are causing them significant regression in their behavior and/or emotional state. Examples of this type of counseling might be grief, trauma, abuse, etc.
In addition to counseling, I assist our team in identifying students who may need special education or 504 services, designing behavior plans, connecting families with resources to assist them through difficult circumstances, and holding attendance conferences to help parents maximize their child's academic and social/emotional potential.
Thank you for trusting PAE with your children. I am truly so blessed to be a part of their daily lives, and I take that responsibility and privilege very seriously. Below are several tips/resources I've found very helpful in raising my own children and supporting our students over the years. Please reach out if you have any questions!
Much love,
Mrs. LeBeau
The best and most helpful thing we can do for our children to meet their fullest potential is making sure they get enough rest. This picture gives you an idea of how much sleep kids need based on their age. When our students are well rested, they come to school ready to work hard all day and give us their best emotionally and mentally. A consistent sleep schedule is crucial for success at school.
Children thrive when they are able to move and play! Giving them opportunities to get away from screens, move their bodies, and use their imagination can do wonders for their development!
School is a very structured environment. When kids aren't accustomed to structure at home, following the schedule of a school day can be difficult for them. As much as possible, be consistent with schedules at home. If another caregiver is with your child in the evenings or on weekends, write out a schedule for homework, dinner, bath, and bedtimes and explain why following a schedule is important to them.
Love as a parent/guardian comes in many forms. It can come in the form of listening, being present, help with homework, accountability, advocacy, taking care of basic needs, etc. More than ever, children need love at home. They need to know there is someone in their corner who wants the best for them. It's important that we work hard to make sure the environment in our homes is a loving one on a consistent basis.
