Big Life Hooks
These 'Hooks' are designed to encourage conversation, spark positive emotion and promote authentic relationships in the classroom.
Some suggestions for how to use the Big Life Hooks:
Write one on the board for students to discuss as they come in to the classroom
Use a question as a 'roll call', asking it before you mark the roll and inviting each student to respond as you call their name
Select some of the questions for students to discuss in pairs/groups as an engage activity or a brain break
Use Brain Breaks to maintain classroom engagement and get students ready to learn.
brain breaks
These Brain Breaks can be used by individual students, small groups or a whole class, based on their needs. You can print these lists on paper or flash cards to display or distribute to students in the classroom.
Please note, students in the Red Zone need individual attention and will struggle to de-escalate in a whole class setting. Please see the Self-Reg Room for resources to support students in the Red Zone.
