Seniors College Planning Schedule

Throughout the year do the following:

  • Get the best possible grades in order to be considered for competitive colleges.
  • Participate actively in extra-curricular and community projects which show character, leadership and citizenship.
  • Attend Advisory meetings with your counselor.
  • Schedule meetings with your counselor to touch base and get college guidance.
  • Check your school email regularly so you don’t miss out about hearing about college representatives’ visits and other important information about applying to college.
  • Read the weekly Six Tasks of the Week Emails from your college counselor
  • Attend College Night and meetings with College Reps when they visit
  • Review with your college counselor which college admissions testing you still need to take or retake
  • Prepare for the SAT through Kahn Academy through individualized practice

August

September & October

  • Schedule senior meeting with College Counselor to finalize plans. Parents are encouraged to attend this meeting.
  • Submit to counselor a list of colleges where you will be applying and corresponding deadlines.
  • Register for any college entrance tests not yet completed, SAT, SAT subject tests and TOEFL.
  • Start working on college applications.
  • Request any additional teacher recommendations to be placed in your senior file.
  • Students applying to Oxford or Cambridge (you cannot apply to both) – complete UCAS form.
  • Work on writing excellent college essays.
  • If applying Early action/decision applications, note the early deadlines and plan accordingly.
  • Attend College Night
  • Attend Senior Day (same day as PSATs) and work on college applications.
  • FAFSA available in October.

November

  • Continue to work on college applications and review them with the college counselor.
  • Applications due to California universities – November 30th

December

  • Goal is to submit all applications prior to winter break.
  • Make sure you are filing all necessary financial aid forms and scholarship applications.
  • Make sure SAT/ACT/TOEFL scores were officially sent to each college through the relevant testing agency.

January

  • Check university online portals (where appropriate) to make sure all applications materials were received.
  • Mid-year reports (first semester grades) sent to colleges

February

  • Register for the AP tests in May
  • Register for Israeli universities Overseas or Mechina Programs.

March/April/May

  • Notify college counselor of acceptance to colleges. Make sure you have received financial aid offers from all schools before rejecting any offers. Indicate to the admission office where you are wait-listed, that you are interested in being considered at a later date. Contact any colleges from whom you have not received final answers. Write to any colleges from whom you did not accept an offer of admission and indicate your plans to attend somewhere else. J
  • Attend workshops on transitioning to college given through the counseling department.
  • Final preparation for AP Exams.

June

  • Attend Senior Seminar Day on transitioning to college
  • Graduation!
