Welcome to the online home of the Wayzata High School Orchestras. Students in the WHS Orchestras are members of an exceptional program that plays an important role in the school’s curriculum and culture. In partnership with other offerings in our school's Music and Theatre department, our orchestras nurture personal and artistic growth by celebrating, examining, and challenging the human experience through music.
Guided by the NAfME National Standards for music literacy and ASTA string curriculum recommendations, six core concepts frame our collective work:
Engagement
Physical Approach to the Instrument
Intonation
Rhythm and Tempo
Musicianship and Artistic Intent
Practice Strategies for Concept and Skill Retention
Guided by high expectations for character and scholarship, and working with like-minded peers in an invigorating and supportive environment, our students are challenged to create sensitive, informed performances built on a foundation of content understanding and a belief that excellence matters.
Our orchestral program features seven curricular orchestras. You should play in orchestra at WHS because…
Your experiences will be meaningful, creating life-long touchstones
Colleges will see you as a more well-rounded applicant
You can create lasting friendships, making a big school feel smaller
We make great music!
All students should use code 670, and we will schedule you for the right orchestra.
