Research process

Writing a research paper is a lot like eating an elephant. One bite at a time. On my page, I will primarily be helping you with steps 1,2,3, & 7. So let's look at those.

1. Choosing a topic. Maybe you already know of a topic you want to research, or maybe not. If you can't decide, explore these possibilities.

   • Is there a pressing topic of interest in the news lately? (Warning: make sure it is not so current that there isn't enough information yet)

   • You can also browse the topic lists on two of our most popular databases that I recommend for the argumentative research paper. You can find links for them by clicking on the "Library Resources" folder in classlink.

   • Make sure it is a topic of interest to you!!!!

2. After you have figured out what you are researching...it is time to gather information. There are a number of different types of resources you can use.

   • Professional Journals, magazine articles, and newspaper articles that you find in one of our Databases.

   • Print Books

     • Our High School catalog

     • Public Libraries

   • Websites

     • Don't forget to evaluate your Website. Remember: anyone can create a website. Choose wisely
