In Language Arts, students learn to become better readers and writers using the online program Amplify ELA. With Amplify ELA, students learn to attack any complex text and make observations, grapple with interesting ideas, and find relevance for themselves.Students will be reading both information and literary text where they are encouraged to make meaning for themselves. They develop ideas and opinions on real-world, relevant texts, instead of focusing on right or wrong answers. Some examples of what we will be reading this year includes: Roald Dahl, Sherlock Holmes, and Greek mythology just to name a few.
Students will also use the interactive program Reading Horizons Elevate for Word Study to help improve spelling and grammar skills, and further develop foundational reading skills. This program uses research-based strategies to help students understand the rules and patterns of the English language—leading to high accuracy in reading, spelling, and pronunciation.
