Bulletin For Friday April 3rd

INformaton Central

School Information

  • Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed Executive Order 2020-35, which orders all K-12 school buildings to remain closed for the remainder of the school year. The order directs each school district to come up with a plan to finish the year using remote or distance learning.

  • Wayland Union Schools will communicate to families the details of our distance learning plan on Monday, April 13th.

  • Graduation for the Class of 2020: As the Governor stated, if a student was on track to graduate, they will graduate. Communication will be sent out to our seniors to let them know their status. The district is committed to holding a Commencement ceremony for our graduating Seniors when permitted to do so!

  • PSAT / SAT: Students who are currently enrolled in 8th-11th grade will be able to take the PSAT or SAT in the fall.

  • Building Access: At this time only pre-approved adults are allowed into our buildings. We are working to get clarification on if the Governor’s Executive Order allows for students to come into the building to collect their belongings. We will communicate a plan and schedule for pickup of medications and belongings, along with our distance learning plan to families on Monday, April 13th. Additionally, we will be publishing a schedule for the collection of materials (iPads, books, music/athletic uniforms, etc.) to occur at the end of the school year in June.

  • Meal Program: Our meal program will continue during spring break with meal service being provided on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11:30-12:30 at Wayland Union Middle School, Dorr Elementary, Windsor Woods, and Hunters Glen.

Teachers

    • Hey teachers, do you want to share something with students? Some good news or recommendations for books, movies or other resources? Well then share it with us at whsbulletin@waylandunion.org. You can share through Google Drive or directly through iMovie. See below for an example

We Miss You

Educating at Home:

  • Many of our teachers have provided resources to sustain and enrich learning while students are home during this closure. We encourage you and your child to utilize district resources found in Wayland Union Schools’ How Can I Help My Child at Home Newsletter and those that are being sent by our teachers. These are optional resources but highly encouraged to minimize learning loss and prepare students for their return to school.
      • If you are experiencing trouble and need assistance with your student’s school-issued iPad, please contact helpdesk@waylandunion.org.

What if we don’t have internet at home:

  • Spectrum and Comcast are all offering 60 days of free internet access. For more information, please visit:
  • Many wireless carriers have suspended late fees and overage charges for data. Check with your wireless/hotspot carrier for details.

  • In addition to the options above, we’ve worked with local businesses to create a list of locations where students and their families can access the internet. We will continue to add locations to this list in the coming days. These locations include:
      • Dorr Public Library Parking Lot
      • Gun Lake Casino - guest wifi is on the west side of the main parking lot, closest to the marquee.
      • Henika District Library Parking Lot
      • Koval Properties (NW Corner of the Building)
      • Leighton Township Library
      • Wayland City Park
  • Additionally, we are working on marking spots in our school parking lots where families can park to access our school WiFi.

  • If you are experiencing trouble and need assistance with your student’s school-issued iPad, please contact helpdesk@waylandunion.org.
