Outside Advisor Information (can be a WHS teacher):
Thank you in advance for your interest in mentoring/supervising a Wayland High School (WHS) student who hopes to do a Senior Independent Project this spring.
Mentor Qualifications:
Expertise in the student’s chosen field
Willing to support and guide a WHS student
If the project is approved, your responsibilities will include the following:
1. Help the student shape a project that has a workable schedule and feasible goals for the 6 weeks allotted. For an internship, the student’s job and its hours and responsibilities should be laid out clearly.
2. Meet with the student on a regular basis (at least weekly) during the course of the project. This meeting may be done via telephone or zoom call as well.
3. Provide guidance and mentorship so that the student is able to move to a new level of understanding and skill in your field. Make sure that the work being done represents the student’s best abilities.
4. Although it is not required, we’d love for you to be able to come to the “Projects Night” on Thursday, May 30, 2024 to see your student present to WHS faculty, family, and friends what they have accomplished.
Thank you for taking an interest in working with our students.
