Hi 5th graders! Here's what we're doing in lessons this week:
This one practices 8th notes, 16th notes, 8th/16th combinations, AND gives us a chance to do some rhythmic improvisation!
We used pencils on music stands, clapping where it asks to, and back-and-forth feet for 16th notes. Try it at home and play it a different way!
We'll also work on those 16th note rhythms in Stone Mountain Stomp, either in lessons and/or in orchestra.
Then we'll switch gears a bit:
G Chromatic scale - how fast can you get it?
Blues scale - can you memorize it?
Blues improv - adding some more notes to the improvisation choices! The first step is adding some B flats, and then we can try expanding it to include more of the blues scale, but still using the key Chord notes at the changes.
In Orchestra, we'll focus on the D minor scale and the D minor sections of Toucan Tango.
Your assignment this week is to focus on orchestra music, and keep practicing your improvising! See last week's post to play along with the audio track.
Don't forget to keep logging your minutes in your March Madness practice calendar! This is the last week!
