Hello 4th graders!
This week in lessons we will:
Learn a brand new song called Surprise Symphony. This piece uses a kind of articulation which we have been working a lot on recently, called Staccato. This is when notes are short and separated, and clearly articulated using mostly the pointer finger -- should sound like the word "Pop". NOT crunchy and NOT controlled from the arm -- just a smaller motion!
Here is what staccato notes look like.
Remember, when you have multiple staccato notes in a row, it's called HOOKED bow (or "slurred staccato").
This song also introduces some very sudden dynamic changes (this is the surprise!). We practiced playing staccato notes in a variety of volume to prepare for the big "surprise"
