Hi 5th graders!
This week, we learned about a few new rhythms. Here is a review below:
This is a single eighth note. It is one half of a du-de pair. It can happen on the "du" or the "de". It is worth 1/2 of a beat
This is an eighth rest. It is worth 1/2 of a beat, and can occur on the "du" or "de" portion of the half note/rest pair.
This is a dotted half note plus a single eighth note. Think "quarter dot eighth" while you play and it will line up perfectly!
We will use the "quarter dot eighth" rhythm a lot in our new song "Three Days of a Knight". CLICK HERE to listen to a recording!
In lessons we:
started to work on how to tune our own instruments!
worked on page 9, learning about our new rhythms above
Keep practicing this page so you can confidently play our orchestra music with the correct rhythms!
In orchestra we:
played C, D, and G scales in different (including "quarter dot eighth")
listened to our second new piece, Shadow Fire (click HERE to listen)
Tried Shadow Fire a little bit at a time with a metronome. We got really good at measures 1-9!
Looked at the third movement of Three Days of a Knight called "Dragon Chasing Day." Violins and violas started at m. 1 and cello and bass started at m. 9. We tried this tricky passage together, identifying patterns as we went and working faster and faster each time. Keep practicing this passage slowly, and don't forget to play C natural!
