Hi 3rd graders,
Here's what we're doing in classes this week (might vary slightly from school to school):
1- Playing a scale in half notes, then quarter notes, then 8th notes.
2 - trying #66 to practice reading the "pepperoni pizza" rhythm with du-de's and du's (eighth notes & quarter notes). #67 follows the same rhythm, but with notes stepping DOWN the D scale!
3 - trying #68 to practice reading the "dog chase the cat chase the..." rhythm, then realizing that #69 follows the same pattern going UP the D scale. Remember to change notes on every "dog!"
4 - Starting #89, Bile 'em Cabbage Down. We looked at Part A first. Notice that it follows the "dog chase the cat chase the..." rhythm, changing notes on each measure (or "dog") UNTIL the very end when the "cat" wins the game! We will practice only playing/labeling the notes that change, then playing the whole thing!
5- Adding part B of the same tune. It's so easy! Then we'll learn how violins, violas and cellos can TRY to play parts A and B together if they like!
6 - Playing through Frere Jacques, which we started last week!
We are a bit behind on karate belts, and I ran out of them, so we have to do LOTS of catch up this week!
White = D scale, Green = Twinkle, and next is Frere Jacques!

Here are two super fun videos to watch and be inspired by!
Watch what happens as this gets going! Which was bigger, our performance at String Jamboree or this one? :)
This is the piece we started in the book, "Bile 'em Cabbage Down"!
