Hello 5th graders!
Lessons: Very exciting news this week -- you will start to learn how to tune yourselves!
Our first step this week will be to learn how the fine tuners work! We'll hold the instruments with the strings facing us so we can easily make sense of which way to turn them.
Remember: righty tighty (clockwise) for a higher sound; lefty loosey (counter clockwise) for a lower sound.
Another way to think of it is: to make the sound higher, turn the fine tuner toward a higher-sounding string. To make it lower, turn the fine tuner toward a lower-sounding string!
We'll all mess up our A strings by making them higher, and then trying to match the piano and "vote" to see how we each do!
Then we'll do LOTS of review of how to play low and high B flat, and keep reviewing them in the book.
Orchestra: We're continuing work on Night Flight, with lots of emphasis on intonation. Students should be very comfortable playing up to measure 25 by now , and with the last few measures-- we'll keep working! Can you get to 43?
