Hi 3rd graders! Here's a reminder of what we did in class this week:
Warmed up by talking about notes moving in steps or skips and playing those patterns!
Reviewed Seminole Chant and, especially, Lightly Row in the book (that's a tricky one!)
Learned a new note B! It is played like this:
VIOLIN/VIOLA/CELLO: with one finger on the red tape on the A string
BASS: with four fingers on the yellow tape on the G string
Figured out that using this new note B and knowledge of stepping, we can play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star!
Labeled the notes for Twinkle using our knowledge of steps and played it together (attached below for your reference). We used our new note B, as well! Here are the notes you should have labeled for Twinkle:
D D A A B B A
G G F# F# E E D
A A G G F# F# E
A A G G F# F# E
D D A A B B A
G G F# F# E E D
(Might be different depending on your school) Reviewed how to form our "pencil bow holds" (see last week's post for the helpful video to show you how) and reviewed how to log bow holds in our Bow Hold Learner's Permit! Then, we played some fun new bow games with music! See if your 3rd grader can remember the windshield wiper, the pinky taps, waving goodbye and the rocketship!
Marked which tunes in our books we might play in upcoming concerts! Song #s 15, 19, 21 & 22, and/or maybe others depending on which school you go to!
Twinkle, pencil bow holds
***Students must log a total of 75 bow holds on their permit in order to earn their bow license! Practice your bow holds slowly and thoughtfully. You should only be doing 2-3 a day and no more than 10-15 per week! Coloring in the whole sheet by the next lesson will not count! Think about your position and remember to keep your hand relaxed :)
