Hi 3rd graders!
Here's what we did in class this week:
Played a D scale in the rhythm of "Dog Chase the Cat..."
Practiced our Note Reading skills by drawing notes on the correct line/space using white boards
Reviewed the notes we labeled last week for #89, "Bile 'em Cabbage Down" - we just labeled the notes of the MELODY (A part) when they change, which is mostly once per measure.
Practiced part A for "Bile 'em Cabbage Down," and then added the fancy ending:
D AA B A (rest) C# D! (You should have written this on the bottom of the page under the song. Can you practice it?)
Looked at part B - it's just the A string for violin/viola/cello, and fun "slap pizzicato" with open strings for basses! Then we are trying parts A and B together. See if you can get it faster at home, and include the fancy ending.
Labeled "Frere Jacques" -- remember, every two measures repeat, so we only label it the first time it happens. So, the whole thing goes like this:
D E F# D (D E F# D) F# G A__ (F# G A).
ABAG F# D (ABAG F# D). D A D__ (D A D)
We tried playing all of Frere Jacques, echoing after the teacher
Looked at a fun Bonus Song #72 Buckeye Salute. Try this with your bow if you are looking for more to practice. You can also go back in the book and play some older songs that we learned plucking with the bow!
The assignment for next week is: really master #88-89, BONUS #72. Also, keep working on your flashcards so you can learn to read your music!
March Madness calendars are due soon - don't forget to keep track of your number of practice minutes!
