Hi 3rd graders! By now, you should be getting pretty comfortable using your bow to play some of the songs we've learned so far this year! If you're not there yet, keep practicing, and remember to always think about your position and the way you are holding your instrument and bow!
Here's what we did in class this week (may vary slightly by class):
Did some warm-ups in our bow tubes to review down and up
Used our bows to tune and play some open strings songs on pg. 17
Talked about how to read music and some fun sentences we can remember to help us remember the names of the lines of the music staff
Violin: Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge
Viola: Fat Alley Cats Eat Garbage
Cello/Bass: Grizzly Bears Don't Fly Airplanes
Some classes got a worksheet to help practice labeling notes on the staff (if you didn't, you will next week!)
We tried putting fingers down with the left hand and bowing at the same time! Work on pg. 18 to practice this. The notes are not labeled, so use your sentences and your knowledge of the musical alphabet stepping up and down to figure out what comes next!
Played a D scale and Twinkle with our bow!
We will soon begin Strings Karate - in order to earn your first belt, the White Belt, you will need to play a D scale with your bow with a smooth sound! The next belt will be for Twinkle with the bow!
