Hello 5th graders! Happy New Year!
It was great to hear everyone in our jam sessions with the band. You should be proud of your ability to share and make music with others!
We are starting out 2025 with some work on 16th notes.
As you see in this image, 16th notes are twice as fast as 8th notes, which are twice as fast as a quarter note.
Du is divided into Du-De, which is divided into Du-ta-De-ta.
Four 16th notes fit into ONE BEAT.
Sometimes they are in groups of 2 and sometimes in groups of 4. You can tell them apart from 8th notes by the double "beam" they have.
Our new piece, Wildfire, has 16th notes in both groups of 2 and 4.
In lessons this week, we will:
Echo patterns with Du, Du-de, and Du-te-de-te
Work on page 16, all about 16th notes!
Listen to Wildfire
Your assignment next week is:
Review page 16 (and learn Mockingbird, the one song on the page that we might not have gotten to in class!)
Start working on our new piece!
