Jen Root- Teacher
I am excited to start my 11th year teaching kindergarten in Wayland. This is my 19th year teaching in a kindergarten classroom. I have also taught preschool, pre-k, 1st and 2nd grade. I have taught in Vermont, Cambridge, Boston, Sherborn and Sudbury. I have a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Vermont and a Master’s Degree from Boston University’s Wheelock College. Both degrees are in early childhood education with focuses in literacy and psychology. Outside of teaching I enjoy spending time with with family, reading, gardening and doing puzzles. I live in Sherborn with my husband and 2 daughters, Loren (21) and Mia (17) and our 2 dogs.
Kristin Sargent-Assistant Teacher
Kristin Sargent (formerly Trump) is our classroom teaching assistant and we have worked together in Wayland for 6 years. Kristin has been teaching in Wayland’s kindergarten for more than 30 years! She also has worked in many Wayland summer programs and at BASE, Wayland’s before and after school programs. Ms. Sargent lives with her husband, 2 stepchildren and her dog Luna Rose. She loves spending time outdoors, gardening, and reading.
Amanda Wade - Special Education Teaching Assistant
Amanda graduated from American University with a B.A. in Musical Theatre and Secondary Education in the Spring of 2020. Last year, Amanda taught at The Children’s Way Preschool in Wayland. She has also worked at the New England Center for Children teaching Special Ed. In the past Amanda has also taught acting and theatre at the Berklee City Music Prep Academy through the Berklee School of Music, the Boch Center, Reagle Music Theatre, Stadium Theatre, and the Watertown Childrens’ Theatre. In her spare time, she likes to perform in community theatre, design costumes, and hang out with her two corgis, Reeses and Spice!
