Use the place value chart to help you better understand the following concepts:
Place Value INCREASES by 10 as you move from RIGHT to LEFT.
Place Value DECREASES by 10 as you move from LEFT to RIGHT.
Decimals can be written and read by thinking of it as having a first name and a last name.
First name: read the whole number that follows the decimal
Last name: The"place" the last digit falls in.
For example: 0.673
First name is: six hundred seventy three
Last name is: thousandths (because the 3 is in the thousandths place)
So we read it as, six hundred seventy three thousandths
