Music

During Phases 4 and 5 , there will be no shared equipment, instruments, music, music stands, pencils, etc. in music classes. Digital materials will be used when possible, and equipment is assigned to each student as applicable.

Elementary General Music

  • In most cases, music classes will transition to music classrooms.

  • Music kits for each child will be provided:

    • Primary Grades (4K-2): rhythm sticks, egg shaker, scarf, wrist bells.

    • Secondary Grades (3-5): bucket drum, drumsticks, egg shaker, scarf.

  • Singing in five, 10 or 15-minute increments (masked) is allowed as air purifiers will be placed in general music classrooms.

Elementary Band/Orchestra/Strings

  • Orchestra (Grades 4-5) & Prelude Strings (Grades 5K-3)

    • Lessons will continue and the schedule will be communicated by the teacher.

    • Full Orchestra rehearsals will be scheduled after Spring Break.

  • 5th Grade Band

    • Lessons will transition to in-person and the schedule will be communicated by the teacher.

    • "PPE" (e.g., band masks and bell covers) will be provided to all band students and teachers.

    • Air purifiers have been placed in band rooms.

    • Full Band opportunities will be scheduled after Spring Break.

Secondary Performance Music (Grades 6-12)

  • Band

    • At the beginning of fourth quarter, classes will transition to in-person band rehearsals.

    • "PPE" (e.g., band masks and bell covers) will be provided to all band students and teachers.

    • Air purifiers have been placed in band rooms.

    • Playing will occur in 30-minute intervals in classes lasting longer than 38 minutes.

    • Music First materials and resources will still be utilized by band students until the end of the year.

    • Students must take instruments home daily to assist with clearing of rooms, etc.

  • Choir

    • At the beginning of fourth quarter, classes will transition to in-person band rehearsals.

    • "PPE: (e.g., vocal masks designed specifically for singing) will be provided to all choir students and teachers.

    • Air purifiers have been placed in all choir rooms.

    • Singing will occur in 30-minute intervals in classes lasting longer than 38 minutes.

    • Music First materials and resources will still be utilized by band students until the end of the year.

  • Orchestra

    • Will rehearse as “normal."

    • Students must take instruments home daily to assist with cleaning of rooms, etc. Exception: bass and cello students who have an instrument at home and one at school; all instruments must be in cases and bags overnight for protection from the cleaning process.

Secondary General Music Classes

  • Intermediate School: 6th Grade General Music & 7th Grade Music Innovations

    • Students will have digital assignments

    • Music kits (e.g., bucket drum, drumsticks, egg shaker, scarf) for each student are available in both classes.

  • High School: Sound Engineering & Design Class & Musical Theater Class

    • Classes will continue as usual

    • Digital assignments as much as possible
