Learning Recovery & Extended Learning Plan

On February 9, 2021, Governor DeWine asked schools and districts to develop an extended learning plan to address learning recovery for students impacted by the coronavirus pandemic and related disruptions. Each district or school has been asked to consider its unique needs and issues and prepare a plan that responds appropriately and leverages assets of its unique demographic.

Wauseon Exempted Village Schools have been operating in-person for the duration of the 2020-2021 school year, with only a few periods of remote learning and instruction. With that in mind, our extended learning plan capitalizes on our ability to sustain in-person learning and the positive impact it has had on our students and families, but also addresses the academic and social-emotional needs of students inherent to the circumstances of the last year.

Needs Assessment

Identifying the needs of students and which students have been most impacted will help us determine the best plan. Results from the KRA, Grade 3 Fall ELA test, common assessment data, Spring state tests, STAR data, SEL screeners and teacher input and feedback will be reviewed and used to inform our needs.

Back to School 2021

A staggered start to the 2021-2022 school year will be implemented. Similar to the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year, students will be heading back to school on different days according to grade level. Each building in the district will have a staggered start plan according to the needs of their student population. This will be done over a longer period of time than was done for the 2020-2021 school year to allow for diagnostic and student readiness tasks.

Social-emotional

Students have not only been impacted academically, and we recognize the importance of their social-emotional health as well. Part of our plan will address the SEL needs of our students by gathering information and planning SEL programming accordingly.
