Recommended for advanced users:
Google Takeout is recommended for users who are familiar with their computer's file system and with processing local files. For students who are not comfortable with downloading files or who wish for a simpler method of transferring data please see the section on Google Transfer
Google Takeout
Google Takeout is another method to save student data. Takeout will save your data by letting you download it locally as a .zip file to a personal computer.
Follow the link below to go to the Google Takeout Homepage
Google Takeout is rather simple to use as it doesn't require a second google account to save data, just follow the link in the above section, make sure you're logged into your district provided account, select what data you would like to download and click Next Step
If you're unsure of what data you should save, common apps that students have data on are:
Google Drive
Mail
YouTube and YouTube Music
Classroom
At this point select how you would like to receive the download, its recommended to send a download link to the student email and then open that link on the computer or other device that you would like to store the data on.
From this point select Export once and make sure that the file will be exported as a .zip file, which can be opened on almost any computer
Once the export is started google will do the work of moving all your files in the background, depending on how much data is stored in your district provided account the process could take a fair amount of time. When the export is finished then you will receive an email with a link to download your data.
