Jazz Band

Jazz band is an extra-curricular opportunity open to 7th graders in the band program.

Full jazz band rehearsals (rhythm section with the addition of saxophones, trumpets, and trombones) will begin on Tuesday, October 5. Rehearsals will be every Tuesday and Friday morning and run until spring break. Rehearsals begin promptly at 7:00 AM. Students should be in the band room warming up by 6:55 AM. Students with three tardies or two unexcused absences will be dismissed from the ensemble

Participation in the 7th grade jazz ensemble is optional, but requires that interested students must attend ALL rehearsals and performances. In order for the season to be successful, educational, and fun, everyone must be responsible for his or her individual parts as well as attendance.

Below is a calendar of performance dates. Please carefully check for any conflicts. Performance times will be available as the date approaches.

Students are encouraged to listen to the selections ahead of time. All recordings of the music is available at the bottom of this page.

The jazz ensemble is comprised of saxophones, trombones, trumpets, drum set, piano, bass guitar, vibes, and some limited auxiliary percussion.

Prior to Thanksgiving break, auditions will be held for students that wish to continue into the performance part of the season. Auditions will be judged by the student’s ability to play his/her music, scales we have worked on during rehearsals, and attendance and punctuality at jazz band rehearsals.
