For the past 25 years, Bud Watson has proudly called Glenville home—raising three children alongside his wife, Kim, and building deep roots in our community. As a National Board Certified Teacher, union representative, education advocate at the state and federal level, and longtime coach, Bud has dedicated his life to empowering others—whether in the classroom, on the field, or through local leadership.
Bud has fought for sidewalks and pedestrian safety to keep our families safe, stood firm against overdevelopment to preserve our neighborhood’s character, and led the Alplaus Neighborhood Association to deliver real results for residents. Bud Watson has worked closely with town, state, and federal partners to ensure our voices are heard and our needs are met.
To support local events and strengthen community engagement, he created new revenue streams for Alplaus—helping fund initiatives that bring neighbors together and celebrate what makes our town special.
His guiding belief is simple: when we work together, we get things done—and we build a community we’re proud to call home.

Bud has been a dedicated teacher who advocates for increased funding and legislation for physical education—because he believes every student deserves access to quality wellness and movement programs. As a proud member of SHAPE America, he was honored to represent New York State at the national level, championing ESSA funding and advocating for legislative support of physical education.
His advocacy has taken him to the halls of Congress, where he has met and spoken with the offices of high-ranking senators, including Bernie Sanders, and had the unforgettable privilege of meeting one of his personal heroes, Senator John McCain. These experiences have only deepened his commitment to fighting for policies that prioritize student health, equity, and opportunity.
He then became deeply involved in New York State–based ESSA legislation, advocating for policies that prioritize physical education and wellness in our schools. Bud's work focused on ensuring the state enforces PE mandates and provides equitable funding—because every student deserves access to quality physical education and health education, regardless of their zip code.
One of Bud's proudest accomplishments was helping organize a statewide Speak Out Day, which brought together educators, students, and advocates to raise their voices in support of physical education. The event was a success, drawing attention and momentum—until Governor Cuomo shut it down, citing cost concerns. It was a disappointing moment, but it only strengthened his resolve and understanding of how the Federal and State Governments work.
Leadership means standing up for what’s right, even when it’s inconvenient. He's never backed down from that responsibility, and won’t start now.
