North School News
Caregivers;
What a Winter Wonderland I am sitting in right now! The snow is drifiting down gently and leaves a feel of peace. I hope you are all warm and enjoying the view.
This snow reminds us that we will still be going outside at recess. The students are expected to wear snow clothes and boots. We have a FEW pairs of snowpants in the office, but they are only meant to be worn by those who forget, not for the entire season. If you need help getting snow gear, please reach out to the office. FIfth grade parents - I know we are entering the "no coat" phase of adolescence. We don't judge you when your kid shows up in a sweatshirt, but they are still going outside, so please continue to encourage appropriate outerwear.
Check out all the flyers below, there is a lot going on between now and Winter Break. Santa Shop begins tomorrow - you child's teacher should have reached out with the schedule of when they shop, but there will be time to shop on Friday for anyone who forgets earlier in the week. Thanks to the PTO for all their hard work making this event happen.
As you know, Mr. Seager retired at the end of September, and the Board is beginning the process of finding a permanent replacement. I have linked a survey below for you to weigh in on the next Superintendent. Please take a few minutes to fill it out.
When we return from Thanksgiving, there are 3 weeks between that break and our Christmas Break. I know the teachers are making plans and are expecting to see growth during that time. To quote Mrs. Moffatt; we are going to work hard so we can play hard! Routines and attendance is important as we enter this whirlwind of time.
With the opening of this year's hunting season, Nurse Mary has asked me to share that she has a large number of Gun Locks that were donated to the School Safely team. The intention is to share them with anyone that owns a gun and does not have a proper lock Please reach out to me at lpline@watervlietps.org if you are interested, or have a need for a gun lock/
Please note the the back parking lot is for staff parking and GRSP (preschool) drop off and pick up. It is not intended for pick up for 3-5 students. If you are in that parking lot, there is a good chance you will get blocked in. Preschool parents and staff have the right of way, and you will be asked to move if you are stopping those groups from getting where they need to be.
Please remember that we have added a section to our handbook that asks students not to bring coffee or energy drinks to school. If your student brings one to school, it will be left in the office until the end of the day. Thank you for your support in providing healthy choices for our kiddos.
Thank you for trusting us with your children.
Lori Pline
Principal, North Elementary
A note from the PTO:
1) VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
It’s November! This means that Santa’s Secret Shop is less than a month away (12/1-12/5). For this event to run smoothly we need a TON of volunteers (at least 5 at a time for 5 full days) to ensure we have a volunteer for each shopper. Please share our Volunteer Sign Up Form with your parents! After they complete the form we will share the schedule with them so they can sign up to help!

We want your opinion! As we move forward with the search for our next Superintendent; the Board is asking for your help in creating a profile. Please follow the link below to share your thoughts on the skills and beliefs you would like to see in our next Superintendent.
This month we’re challenging students to work together toward a common goal and shared purpose. We are partnering with you to grow and develop teamwork in your child. We can do this by modeling gratefulness, acknowledging positive moments, and affirming each other. Use this month’s activities to practice working together and celebrate your family as a team.
ENGAGE: Grateful for you
I am grateful for you! Create a culture of appreciation and gratitude at home by celebrating the best in each family member all month. What you give attention to grows! On a sticky note or small piece of paper, write one thing you appreciate each day about your child and post it on their bedroom door. Doing this will plant seeds in their heads and hearts to help them see good things about themselves.
EMPOWER: Walk in My Shoes
Create a culture of appreciation and gratitude at home by celebrating the best in each family member. Have every family member trace one of their shoes, then trade drawings and write three words you admire about that family member on their “shoe.” Discuss how each family member brings something great to your family team.
EXCEL: Pay it Forward
When someone does something nice for you, do something nice for someone else. Doing this is a wonderful way to continue the cycle of gratitude. “Paying it forward” is a way of showing love and kindness to others. It could be something as simple as holding the door open for someone or buying coffee for a stranger. Once a week, share as a family one time you “paid it forward” during the week.
BUZZ IN SYSTEM
As we strive to make North School as safe as possible, please be aware that we utilize a "Buzz-In" system for all visitors. All people are asked to come to the front door and follow the procedure below:
Please press the button and wait for someone in the office to respond.
If you’re signing out your student, the sign out sheet will be available inside the first set of doors.
If you’re needing to come inside the office for any reason, office staff will buzz you in the second set of doors.
Please note that the front doors will lock at 7:50 am, anyone arriving after that time will have to use the new system.
