New Mascot Information
Process to Determine a New Watertown High School Mascot
Suggestions for a new mascot will be gathered from students in Grades 6-12, staff members, and community members, including alumni.
Community members can email their suggestions to mascot@watertownps.org
Student council members will work with Dr. Parlato to ensure that suggested mascots align with the selection criteria for a new mascot. The selection criteria for a new mascot are:
Be unifying and timeless for Watertown High School and the larger community;
Represent positive qualities, ideals or associations around which people can rally;
Be broadly relevant across the Watertown community, the student body, and generations of alumni;
Be representative of Watertown’s geography, history, and/or Vision of a Graduate, either generally or specifically;
Work equally well with all athletics programs and school activities;
Be appropriate for sporting and non-sporting events;
Have the potential to translate in a visually pleasing manner, be appealing, and marketable to the community;
Adhere to all Watertown Board of Education policies and regulations.
(Selection criteria based upon the work of the Amherst College mascot revision committee: https://www.amherst.edu/amherst-story/amherst-pride/mascot/faqs)
There will be at least three rounds of voting to narrow down the field of mascot suggestions. The first round of voting will include Grades 6-12 students, and the remaining rounds will include Grades 8-12 students.
The new mascot will be revealed in the Fall of 2021.
