Hello artists!
This week we will be making botanical (plant) art inspired by the designer Lucy Tiffney.
Below you will see 2 links posted. The first is a video demonstrates how to create this style art using paint.
The second will take you to a home design magazine site showing photographs of Lucy Tiffney and her artwork.
Feel free to create this on any color paper, using any medium you have available to you (I used marker, the teacher in the video uses paint.) I suggest that you do this using the paper landscape, or long way side to side. If you look at my examples, you will see that I made one with a floral design and the other with more of a jungle feel. Be sure to fill in the space! You can email it to me sthompson@watertowncsd.org when you have completed it.
Have fun, I can't wait to see your masterpiece!

Hello to all of my phenomenal artists!
This week will be a k-4 drawing challenge! The challenge is to draw a rectangle on your paper and turn it into part of your drawing! (feel free to use a tracer!) You may choose to do this using the paper portrait (long way up and down) or landscape (paper side to side). You may also choose how to add color (crayons, markers, colored pencils, etc.) submit through your class platform or email it to me at sthompson@watertowncsd.org so I can mark this assignment complete!
I can't WAIT to see your creativity flow! :)
Hello my wonderful artists!
It has come to my attention that some families thought art was optional and have fallen behind. This week, please use this time to complete an assignment that you need to catch up on. If all assignments are complete, fantastic, then you may submit a free draw OR are invited to design a poster contest to support our healthcare workers. Click the link for contest details if that is what you chose and don't forget to post it to your class platform or email it to me to I can see it!

Hello Northside artists!
This week, K-4, nature is your canvas! We will be creating art in the style of Andy Goldsworthy! Click the link for more info and directions on how to do this project!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwXNQorOW1w
A few reminders!
*Be sure to get adult permission to head outside and collect items from your yard that have already fallen from trees or bushes. Our goal is not to interrupt nature's processes by picking plants and flowers, but to use what you can find on the ground, like branches, thorns, leaves, etc.
*You can make make your art any way you want. Goldsworthy typically makes sculptures, but you can create natural collages on the grass, weave branches and fallen bark, or follow the artist's example and create a rock sculpture. In my example, I used symmetry to make a 2d design. The materials that I put on one side, I put on the other side in a way that lays flat.
*Remember, this is temporary art and it will eventually go away. Be sure to email me a picture of your art before the wind, rain, your little sibling or your pet gets to it! (or post in your class platform!)
I can't wait to see your work!!!
This week, I have differentiated the lessons a bit for each grade level!
Kindergarten
Roller Coaster (this was also assigned through your class platform!)
Please use art materials you have available to you at home including pencils, crayons, scissors, glue, markers, construction paper, or colored pencils.
Cut strips of paper and draw lines on them to make tracks. Bend, fold, and curl the paper to create different twists and turns on the ride. Glue the strips into place. Draw cars and add them to the ride. Add color with crayons, or markers.
First, Second Third grade
Origami Dog
This was assigned through your class platform. Be sure to use a square piece of paper!
Check my Instagram page for a video! :)
Fourth grade Sandra Silberzweig Selfies
You will begin by viewing the educational video created by Cassie Stephens to learn more about contemporary artist Sandra Silberzweig. Follow the directions on making the portrait, stopping at about the 12 minute mark. (Please feel free to watch the rest, but we will not be using black glue and we will have a choice when adding color.) From there, you add your own line designs and color using what you have to complete your portrait. (See my example on our Instagram page.) I used marker for the designs and then colored with crayons) I can't wait to see what you come up with! ๐

Hello my wonderful artists!!!
I loved seeing all of your projects last week! This week's project is for k-4 but you have a choice. When your art is complete, post your work in your class platform (google classroom, seesaw, etc.) or email it to sthompson@watertowncsd.org and please include your child's name in the subject so I can give credit to the correct artist.
Choice #1
Take a virtual field trip. Use the link below to go to a zoo, farm, aquarium, planetarium or art museum.
https://www.weareteachers.com/best-virtual-field-trips/
Using any medium, make art inspired by what you see on your "trip." You can draw, paint, sculpt using modeling clay or play doh, etc.
Choice #2
Make a picture of yourself on vacation. You can make yourself anywhere in the world! Use what you have learned in past art classes:
*can you name elements that you used?
*can you add a background, middle ground and foreground in your picture?
*can you add texture anywhere in your art?
*was your art inspired by an artist that we have talked about?
Use what you have at home, have fun and get creative! There is no right or wrong! :)
All projects for the first week will be the same for every grade. When project is complete, email to sthompson@watertowncsd.org
