Awesome Things About Sora!

● You always have access to Sora!

● You can check out up to 3 books at a time!

● NO LOSING A BOOK! When a book is due, it will automatically return itself!

● Zoom in/out of pages!

● Bookmark pages!

● Change the brightness/background color of selected books! (click on the center pages when borrowing a book and click on “Reading Settings” on the right hand side in the “Hamburger” tab)

● Once a borrowed book has been downloaded within Sora on your device, you can read it anywhere!

Getting the App or Website - Logging On

Step 1

Visit the Sora website: https://soraapp.com/library/jlbocesny

Sora is compatible with any device connected with WiFi!

Download the Sora Overdrive app from the Google Play Store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.overdrive.mobile.android.sora&hl=en_US&gl=US

Step 2

Search for our school:

Watertown City School District

and

Click on “Sign in using Watertown City School District”



Step 3

Login using your student Google email account.

How to Add a Public Library on to Your Sora Account

Step 1

In the top right hand corner, click on the “hamburger.”

Step 2

Under “Libraries” click “Add a public library.”

Step 3

Search for your local library - North Country Library System

and

Click "This is my library."

(It will add to your list of libraries.)



How to Search/Borrow Books in Sora

Step 1


In the tab "Explore" - Click “Search for a book” or browse using the categories on the page.

Step 2


● Search for specific titles by typing in the title in the search bar.

● Or click on “ADVANCED SEARCH” to search by Title, Author, ATOS (AR) Reading Level, etc.

● Scroll and select “Search” after inputting your advanced search information.

● Make sure spelling is correct!



Step 3


● If unsure of a book to borrow, please use the “Read Sample” option to review the book before borrowing.

● Click on the book itself to view the book’s info (reading level, author, what it is about).

● Some books only have a certain amount of allowed “check outs.” Let’s not waste checkouts!

● If the book is available, click on “Borrow” on the right side of the book photo.

Step 4


● If the book is unavailable to “Borrow,” click on “Place a Hold.”

● Placing a hold will save your place in line; it will give your place # and the estimated time it will take for the readers before you to read.

● You will be notified in the app when the book is available.

● You may choose to borrow it immediately, or if you are still working on other books, you can choose to go to the bottom of the waiting list.

How to Return a Book

Step 1

Go to "Home."

Step 2

Click on the book you want to return.

How to View Tools in Sora

Home Tab

You will be able to view:

● Books that teachers have assigned.

● Current book loans.

● Recently defined words (Highlight a word, right click, and it will show the word's definition, phonics, and how to use it in a sentence).

● Highlights/Notes (Highlight sentences or words to take notes).

Shelf Tab

You will be able to view:

● Current Loans/Holds.

● Wish List Books.

● Finished Books.

● Books you have rated a 👍 or 👎.



“Me” Tab

● Total screen time on Sora, average book reading time, and total number of opened books.

● See all the achievements you have accomplished; earn up to 20 achievements!
