The following are the policies for English class:
Absences: When you miss a class because you miss a day of school or because you had an appointment or were in the office or clinic, it is your responsibility to complete the classwork.
Promptness: You must be on time to class every day. On time means being in the room, seated properly, quiet, and beginning the bell-ringer when the bell rings. If not, you earn a “late.” Chronic tardiness earns you a lunch detention or an office referral. If you are having a problem getting here on time, see me to work out a solution.
Bathroom/drink: Please do your best to go outside of class time. I do not sign passes during class, as it is disruptive of the lesson I am teaching and to the other students, so please only ask in the case of an emergency. Emergencies don‘t happen every day, so do not use this as an excuse. You may carry clear water bottles to class. NO other food or drink is allowed in my room.
Pencil Sharpener: There is an electric sharpener. Please use it before the beginning of the period, or if we’re in a lesson, raise your hand.
Cell phones: The phone in the office is for your emergency use during homeroom period, study hall, lunch, and after school. Cell phones are to be turned off for class. I do not want to see it or hear it. If I do, you receive a warning. The second time it happens, I will confiscate the phone for the remainder of the day. The third time, I will turn the phone into the office. If your phone is turned into the office more than twice, a parents must come to pick it up for you. SO MAKE SURE THIS WILL NOT BE AN ISSUE IN MY ROOM.
Seating: I assign your seats. Due to social distancing please ask if you need to leave your seat.
Grades:
-Independent Work (Homework/Classwork) - 5-10 points
-Writing - 20-30 points
-Quizzes - 20-30 points
-Essays/Tests/Projects - 50+ points
Progress report are sent home every 5 weeks, report cards every ten weeks. You and your parent may also check schooltool for assignment grades and work that is still due.
Classroom Expectations:
*RESPECT! This is my number one rule. I expect everybody in this classroom to be respectful of everybody else. I want all students to feel comfortable asking questions and working with others. This includes distracting other students-it is disrespectful to interrupt the learning of your peers! This also includes raising your hand-make sure to do so when asking/answering a question, because all students deserve the opportunity to contribute.
*Be active participants of your education-this means that you:
-Are putting in effort
-Are staying on task and completing all work to the best of your ability
-Are participating in class discussions and activities
*NO CELL PHONES!
*5 P’S: PROMPT, PREPARED, POLITE, PRODUCTIVE, POSITIVE
*Disruptions, inappropriate behavior, failure to follow rules, etc., lead to a phone call home, lunch detention, and/or office referral-so make sure your behavior is appropriate at all times.
