Every single day people across the United States and around the world stand up in front of some kind of audience and speak. Employers cite public speaking skills and the ability to work collaboratively as highly desirable in candidates for jobs. In this class, we will explore the fine art of theatre, and collectively build our comfort levels in terms of performing in front of an audience. You will be given opportunities to tap into your creativity, and utilize your skill sets in the grandiose world of theatre.

Theatre Production is not so much a course, as it is an experience. In the following months, we will work together as actors, designers, playwrights, and ambassadors of the various realms of theatre production. Students will be required to attend live theatre performances, read, analyze and evaluate a variety of play scripts, and finally, to work as an ensemble in creating two very different theatrical productions.

This course introduces students to basic costume and makeup techniques for the stage. Students will study both costume and makeup design principles. In terms of make-up design, students will use the theories of highlight and shadow, and an examination of facial anatomy and how it changes with age, the student will lean to change the look of the face to suit different characters. Emphasis will be placed on character analysis and research, and translating that into a makeup design. In terms of costume design, this course will help students develop the fundamental skills used by costume designers, focusing particular attention on character analysis, period research, and visual communication. A large portion of the class is devoted to acquiring substantial background knowledge, research, development of drawing skills and design aesthetic, and finally, application.

Students will come to an understanding of script readings and concept analyses of scripts; obtain a basic, working knowledge of the elements of design; and create sketches and renderings of both make-up and costume design
Students will demonstrate their understanding of the basic concepts of applying stage makeup by creating various makeup designs and applying those designs.
This course is designed for the student interested in theatrical performance and acting. The students are required to attend live performances, read and analyze plays, and evaluate scripts from six specific theatrical periods. Students will work and think as actors and develop basic acting skills to portray believable characters who are able to interact in improvised and scripted scenes. This course focuses on introducing and developing the basic acting techniques of characterization, role analysis, stage movement, voice, and body control.
