Our shout today goes to junior Vidita Shah, who attended the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Conference last summer as Waterford High School's representative. The goal of the conference is to empower teens to lead positive changes in their communities, and Vidita came back with some great ideas for initiative to support women's health care.

Congratulations to Jenna Milukas, who has been selected to perform in the United States National honor Choir. Jenna will be traveling to Orlando, Florida, in November to perform in this prestigious choir.

Congratulations as well to the five students who successfully completed the summer-long SHIP internship program at Electric Boat. We had five students, Ryan Bakken, Aaron Poitrowski, Fadi Hage, Lauren Chaput, and Nehemia Calixte, selected after a rigorous interview process last spring, and they spent the summer putting their skills to work alongside EB employees and interns from other area high schools. Way to go!

And finally, a shout out to three members of the Waterford High School Unified Sports Program, Shannon Carter, Peter Hynek, and Madison Nott, who were selected by the CIAC Unified Sports committee to attend the New England Student Leadership Conference this past July. The conference had more than 200 student and adult leaders from all six New England states, and all three reported having a fantastic time representing Lancer Nation's Unified Sports program.

Our first Lancer Shout Out of the year and a huge thank you this morning goes to students and staff who worked a little harder to make the start of the school year a success.

A shout out to the more than 40 students and numerous staff members who worked together to make last Thursday's Freshman Orientation a successful event. In particular, thank you to Mrs. Baumgartner and Mrs. White, who worked throughout the summer to redesign the orientation program to make it as meaningful as possible for our new students. We had well over 90% of our incoming Freshmen participate, and the feedback I have gotten from them was that you all did a great job making them feel welcome here at Waterford High School.

On behalf of the Class of 2023, Mrs. Moger, Mr. Samuelson, and I want to offer you all, our sincere appreciation.

And second, a shout out to Mr. Fioravanti, Mrs. Masciarelli, and all of the musicians in the orchestra and choir who performed at the staff convocation yesterday morning. You all sounded great, and it was great for the faculty and staff to star the year with your performances.
