A: A process that guides educators in providing a unified quality arts education for students in Pre-K through high school.
Q: What is the purpose of Standards?
A: The central purposes of education standards are to identify the learning that we want for all of our students and to drive improvement in the system that delivers that learning. Standards, therefore, should embody the key concepts, processes, and traditions of study in each subject area, and articulate the aspirations of those invested in our schools—students, teachers, administrators, and the community at large.
Q: How are the National Core Arts Standards organized?
A: National Core Arts Standards are framed by a definition of artistic literacy that includes philosophical foundations and lifelong goals, artistic processes and creative practices, anchor and performance standards that students should attain, and model cornerstone assessments by which they can be measured. The connective threads of this conceptual framework are designed to be understood by all stakeholders and, ultimately, to ensure success for both educators and students in the real world of the school.
Q: What is Artistic Literacy?
A: Artistic literacy is the knowledge and understanding required to participate authentically in the arts. Fluency in the language(s) of the arts is the ability to create, perform/produce/present, respond, and connect through symbolic and metaphoric forms that are unique to the arts. It is embodied in specific philosophical foundations and lifelong goals that enable an artistically literate person to transfer arts knowledge, skills, and capacities to other subjects, settings, and contexts.
Q: What are the Artistic Processes? How are they defined?
A: There are four artistic processes. Each of the arts disciplines incorporates these processes in some manner. These processes define and organize the link between the art and the learner. Below are the Artistic Processes and their definitions NCCAS:
Creating:
Conceiving and developing new artistic ideas and work.
