Staff editorial: welcome back to 'brave, new world'

Welcome back Kennedy family! As we roll back into the new 2021-2022 school year, we are all introduced to familiar sights: packed hallways, delicious school lunch, familiar faces, familiar teachers, and a new additive: face masks.

This new school year clearly has come back with a punch; however, let us not forget our mission and purpose for this school year. Each class level in high school comes with its own experiences. Allow us to give you insight as seniors getting ready to leave the wonderful nest of John F. Kennedy High School.

To our newly admitted students into our Kennedy family: welcome! Freshman year is arguably one of the most memorable years in your high school career. You are exposed to a new environment, new school, new people, new classes, new teachers, and a new routine.

Freshman year is a time to make new friends and ultimately reinvent yourself to become the best you that you can possibly be. It’s okay to feel lost at first, don’t be afraid to ask for help and seek guidance. In a regular year, activities that preside are field trips, pep rally and homecoming which are held in the fall, and prom for juniors and seniors held in the spring. As the years go by, those experiences will hopefully occur for your class.

We also have numerous clubs and activities that are ongoing: The Eagle Flyer which has award-winning student journalists, the Key to Success Club which focuses on community service, the Young Women’s Club empowering female students, and many, many more!

Some sports teams you can join include football, cross country, volleyball, swimming, soccer, and more. There are many activities to join and participate in. Being an active student inside and outside of school is a great way to build a high school resume and connect with your school community. Make the most of this brave new world!
