We have spent several years developing our unique process of teaching reading to people of all ages. The finished product is the result of many hours of dedicated work by our team of developers and translators.
We start with a movie or TV show, and then run through the original English subtitles to ensure the text is faithful to the dialogue. After this, our team of translators then runs through and translates the subtitles to the language of choice. Using software we've developed, the subtitles are then placed over the movie or TV show in a scrolling manner. Several lines of dialogue remain on the screen at once, in order to give students a chance to read all of the subtitles during sections of fast speech.
In addition to teaching the illiterate, we can also make learning fun and accessible for children in developed countries.
This process can also be used to provide multiple sets of subtitles at once, for the hearing-impaired. For example, most movies lack subtitles for the Director's Commentary track. We can now show the normal subtitles alongside the commentary.
Similarly, we can show two (or more) languages side-by-side to teach a second language. These can optionally be provided with annotations to explain words and concepts that do not directly translate between two languages.
