The Battle begins in Winter of every year, but it's never too early to read great books!

     Welcome!!

Battle of the Books is an opportunity to use your love of reading, bond with some school friends, and indulge in a healthy sense of competition for fun. With many of our families moving in multiple directions, it is designed to work around those other commitments independently until winter. Then our local district schools challenge each other to represent Watauga County, go to Regional Competition, and then on to State. 

     There is opportunity to “Get what you put in” by the amount of time, practice and reading that team players do. The top players’ stats in both Elementary and Middle School level put them in contention for the bigger play-offs. Our school team will be 1)Bonding at Thursday Lunch Bunches; 2) Practicing Timed Competitions on Thursdays after school until 3:30*; 3) Utilizing “Secret Sauce” technology for cutting edge competitiveness; 4) Hostessing Late night Intensives for all participants to develop a true team spirit. * all of these are optional and are not penalized if missed.

    Volunteer (WCS approved) Assistant Coaches help with activities, encouragement, quizzing, and time. Families are asked for support with snacks, drinks, and transportation. Higher competitive levels would also require overnight accommodations which may or may not use team sponsorship through donations. Thanks to our volunteer coaches, Mrs. Shockey and Mrs. Cornell!

    Those team players who participated throughout the whole season, those who represented and those that worked back-up will celebrate with an end of season banquet.
