In the digital age, we increasingly see people on their phones rather than living in the moment and taking in their environment. Over the course of the trip, I noticed several students at the various locations we visited. Rather than observing the beauty of Washington, DC, at times they chose to scroll on their phones.

"We went to a lot of museums, and we also went to the three branch buildings, the Capitol Building, the White House, the Supreme Court Building, the Library of Congress, the National Archives. We learned a lot, like each of those places, but specifically at the Capitol building. We got a tour of it and we also met Virginia Foxx," said Jacob Sigmon, a junior at Watauga High School.

"It's so important for students to actually be in the places where decisions are made, so they can really see how government works on a day to day basis," said Jaime Wilson, a chaperone on this trip and the AP US History teacher. "I also feel like D.C. is a place that every American should visit at some point in their lives, and a lot of our students missed out on that opportunity, whether it was because of COVID or for different reasons, and for a lot of them, this was their first chance to make that trip. It was very cool for me to get to see students, seeing it for the first time."
