When the weather starts to feel as if that big puffy jacket is needed when stepping outside, or when snowflakes can be seen dancing their way through the sky on that early morning walk, it means that Christmas is getting closer. It's been proven time and time again that favorite Christmas traditions often include going out with the family to choose the Christmas tree or opening presents by the fireplace. One Christmas tradition seems to go unnoticed, and that is all of the beautiful decorations that light up the streets of Boone.
Whether neighborhoods feature colorful light shows in each yard or a simple wreath hanging on the door, Christmas is a holiday taken seriously by those who celebrate. Watauga residents usually start putting their lights out as early as late November. When the dazzling lights are put out for all to see, a great family holiday tradition is driving around to admire the beautiful displays.

Some people might prefer the multicolored lights with rainbow Christmas decorations, but this family chose a classic white Christmas. Big white porch lights, garland intertwined with little sparkling white lights, and fuzzy textured red bows in potted plants are the preference of these folks!
The Deer Valley Athletic Club knows how to put on a nice display of holiday cheer. With bright white lights in the shape of a reindeer and a Christmas tree, it's quite the sight for anyone driving by or a resident.
With rainbow string lights covering the doorway and surrounding area of the yard, the Lutz family knows how to show their festivity. A special touch added by this family was their decorations on their outdoor shrubs.
Even though the Howarths' family decided to go for something a little more traditional, the star lights they chose created a showstopping view in the night.
Whilst driving in the neighborhood of Teaberry Hills, there are many decorative Christmas statues around the corners here and there.
The Maltba family put a Christmas cutout display in their backyard right next to their gazebo with blue and white string lights covering the top of it. The sleigh with Santa's reindeer and the Nativity scene cutouts are quite the holly jolly scene.
The Pilkingston family embraces a refined holiday look, lining their porch with wrapped garland that is intertwined with yellow-tinted string lights. Their large wall-mounted wreath is the true showstopper, easily visible from a great distance.
One family that decided to go above and beyond was the Hudsons. With homemade nutcrackers, lights in the shapes of hearts and peace signs on the roof, and a moose-drawn sleigh bigger than all of Santa's reindeer combined, they truly transformed their house into a winter wonderland.
One of the biggest staples of the light show is the moose that was handmade by the father of the Hudson family. Standing at a towering height of 8 feet tall, light lookers can see the moose drawing a Santa on his sleigh at the center of the lawn.
Another uncommon yet beautiful aspect of the decked-out Christmas home is the icicle awning that adorns the driveway. This array of Christmas lights is certainly the most creative one yet!
Last but certainly not least, the Hudsons proudly feature a handcrafted and hand-painted Santa cutout. This jolly old Saint Nicholas is in a constant state of waving and good cheer for any drivers in need of some holiday spirit!
Just across the street from the Hardin Park School District is the house that most Boone residents know and love for their wildly eccentric holiday decorations. While this picture was taken while the Spencers were still in the process of putting up every decoration, it's still impressive how festive their house gets. With an accumulation of rainbow snowflakes, blown-up inflatables, and speakers playing holiday tunes, this house is sure to put a smile on the face of any passerby.
With Christmas fast approaching in Boone, the town comes alive with lights, decorations, and holiday music that can be seen and heard all around. Let this year be the encouragement to put up the Christmas lights at home or simply take a drive to look at the ones surrounding the nearby neighborhoods.
