Mr. Mansell

My name is Brent Mansell, and I teach Wood and Metal Technology courses. This is my 2nd year teaching at Washougal High School and my fourth year working in education. After graduating from a small High School in Eastern Washington, I spent four years serving the United States Coast Guard as a Damage Controlman. After the Coast Guard, I moved to Spokane Washington and worked in industry as a welder, plumbers apprentice, HVAC technician, and tradesman.

I am a graduate of Washington State University (GO COUGS!) with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Education. After College, I worked for the Educational Service District 112 as paraeducator working with students on classroom behavior and in Special Education. Before joining WHS, I spent a year as a paraeducator/ shop assistant for the La Center School District. One of my major roles there, was to help create instructional lessons for their Career and Technical Education (CTE) wood and metal programs.

My past experiences in the military, in industry, and education have given me a unique perspective. They have shown me the importance of and strengthened my values of respect and integrity. They have shown me the value of good customer service and shown the importance of being able to effectively communicate through written and spoken word.

In the classroom I try to create a positive learning environment that allows students to build upon skills that will help them in their career, community and at home. I believe that a classroom is made up of a diverse group of lifelong learners and each learner brings their own believes and experiences to share with others. In my classroom safety is the number one priority. I want all of my students to work with each of the machines and collaborate with each other. I want to create opportunities for students to demonstrate leadership skills. I have high standards for my students and their quality of work is important.

Goal: To increase graduation rates and prepare students for employment by engaging them in learning related to career interests and workplace readiness/21st Century skills.

• We believe through collaborative work, we can positively impact our students learning and their preparation for the world of work.
• We believe that keeping programs current by staying connected to what is happening in business/industry will have a positive impact on our students.
• We believe there are many paths traveled to get to a desired career and our job is to assist students in understanding those various paths so they choose the best one to fit their needs.
