"It is the procedures that set up the class for achievement to take place," (Harry Wong, 2013). In Wong's best selling book, The First Days of School, he emphasizes teacher effectiveness and how a well-managed classroom will create an optimal learning environment for student achievement.

Your child will learn classroom rules and procedures starting the first day of school. They will practice these procedures over the next few weeks up to a month until they eventually become habits. For everyday classroom procedures, there will be CHAMPS posters displayed around the room that outline student expectations for different activities and transitions. Eventually these expectations will lead to habits that students will become very familiar with. Below are examples of a few habits that your child will learn about through CHAMPS and the Leader in Me.

1. Self-starter: Students learn how to start an activity on their own.

2. Participation: Students are actively listening and engaged, and work together as a team.

3. Adapt: Students know how to adapt and be flexible to different situations without confusion.

4. Independence: Students learn how to take the initiative, be resourceful, and self direct their learning.

5. Empathy: Students show compassion, cultural awareness, and understanding of each other.
