Week 5 XC workouts

June 20-25 Week 3

Purpose of this week's workouts- To continue building a base for the season. It is very important to develop a solid base, or foundation for injury prevention and to allow the body to adapt to training stress. This enables runners to get stronger first, and then faster in the next phase. (think of a foundation for a house...It has to be solid to hold the house).

EVERYONE SHOULD BE DOING TRACK!!!

Each season complements the other.. The shorter faster track season helps with the longer XC season and vice-versa..

Transitioning to track: Track is a long season, so right now, intensity will be low, we will incorporate some cross training such as circuit training, yoga and pool running. I would like for us to meet at the Sand Hollow Aquatics Center during the winter months one day a week for some aqua jogging. They have vests at their facility. (TBD)

We will meet December 13, 15th and 16th to get you started. Please do some cross training such as biking, hiking , swimming in the meantime.

For the holidays, we will have some assigned runs for you to follow.

Stay tuned for the winter training schedule..

TEAM DINNER GUIDELINES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Below is some guidance on team/group dinners. These guidelines are designed to eliminate as much contact from outside sources as possible. It does complicate things and may cost a little bit more, but we ask that you follow these guidelines.

-Team dinners must NOT take place at a parents home. Team dinners need to take place at the school in an OUTDOOR location. One option is the steps/commons area between the main building and PE building that can be scheduled with Mitzi.

-Team dinners must NOT have food prepared by parents/boosters. All food provided must be commercially prepared/purchased.

-Parents should NOT be involved in the serving part of the dinners. The food should be set up in a self-serve style, with only team members accessing the food.

-Before any student touches any food/utensils provided, they MUST wash their hands/use hand sanitizer.

So how can it work? Parents/Boosters can purchase food from a restaurant to be delivered to the school or a coach can go pick it up (if the coach has been symptom checked that day). Parents/boosters can also purchase packaged food from the store (lunch meat, bread, etc, and have it delivered to the school for teams to use.

Please get your sports physicals done soon and get your information into registermyathlete. Physicals are good for one year..

As we prepare for fall sports, many students may need to get a new physical. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, IHC will not be doing any physical nights or events at the school. However, IHC has said that all family physicians and offices are open for you to schedule an appointment to get a physical done. We encourage you to schedule an appointment soon and get that taken care of.

A student will not be allowed to participate in any sport during the school year without a current physical.

If you have any questions you can reach out to Mr. Winslow - the athletic director, through email - michael.winslow@washk12.org.
